NATIONAL LONG DISTANCE CARRIER

Project

The construction of a new wireless route from Memphis into Arkansas and Louisiana had stalled. Finley was called in to complete the project, based on previous experience with similar projects across the country.

Solution

Finley was charged with engineering design, permitting and right-of-way and construction management.

The project involved a variety of specific challenges in each phase. The design was for almost 400 miles of long-distance fiber, with regenerator stations at 50 mile intervals. Permits for the project required coordination with federal, state, and county-level agencies in three states, and right-of-way easements along a power line owned by a utility.

Finley engineers coordinated and managed construction simultaneously along four 50-mile segments, some of which involved the challenges of swampy terrain. Finley also managed and warehoused equipment and materials, including hundreds of miles of cable inventory.

Outcome
The entire project, which opened up new territory for the long distance carrier, was completed in about a year, and brought in on-budget.
